Laboratory of Molecular Virology and Antiviral Research
The Laboratory of Molecular Virology and Antiviral Research is directed by David Lembo, Full Professor of Microbiology at the University of Turin.
Founded in 2007 with the aim of identifying new and effective antiviral molecules, the Laboratory has expanded its mission to various areas of virology, including the study of virus-host interaction and environmental virology. These studies have obtained prestigious funding from national (National Recovery and Resilience Plan - PNRR) and European (Horizon Europe) bodies.
Our research is focused on respiratory viruses, sexually transmitted viruses, emerging viruses transmitted by arthropods, and viruses responsible for gastrointestinal infections.
We offer services for institutions and companies wishing to carry out biological tests on their products or prototypes, according to European Certifications or by developing a tailored experimental protocol. Examples of the services we offer are:
evaluation of the effectiveness of sanitizing and sterilizing devices for the inactivation of viruses and other microorganisms present on surfaces or in the air in the form of droplets or bioaerosols;
antiviral tests in vitro (on cell cultures) and ex vivo (on tissues);
evaluation of the toxicity of molecules and materials on cell cultures.
