The laboratory
The Laboratory of Molecular Virology and Antiviral Research is located within the Department of Clinical and Biological Sciences of the University of Turin, that is a large multi-disciplinary department with research interests that span from basic biological research to clinical application.
The Laboratory features all equipment and space needed for virology research, in a BSL-2 (biosafety level 2) virus containment environment.
Lab spaces:
cell culture laboratory: 25 m2;
cell culture laboratories for virus manipulation: 48 m2;
bacteriology laboratory: 24 m2;
PCR laboratory: 23 m2;
offices: 40 m2
Major Lab Equipment:
7 biohazard hoods: 2 for cell manipulation, 5 for virus manipulation, 1 for bacteria manipulation;
3 CO2 incubators for mammalian cell cultures;
2 incubators for bacteria;
microplate spectrophotometer/luminometer/fluorimeter;
2 Real-Time thermocyclers;
protein and DNA electrophoresis apparatus;
benchtop centrifuges.
