The laboratory

The Laboratory of Molecular Virology and Antiviral Research is located within the Department of Clinical and Biological Sciences of the University of Turin, that is a large multi-disciplinary department with research interests that span from basic biological research to clinical application.

The Laboratory features all equipment and space needed for virology research, in a BSL-2 (biosafety level 2) virus containment environment.

Lab spaces:

• cell culture laboratory: 25 m2;

• cell culture laboratories for virus manipulation: 48 m2;

• bacteriology laboratory: 24 m2;

• PCR laboratory: 23 m2;

• offices: 40 m2

Major Lab Equipment:

• 7 biohazard hoods: 2 for cell manipulation, 5 for virus manipulation, 1 for bacteria manipulation;

• 3 CO2 incubators for mammalian cell cultures;

• 2 incubators for bacteria;

• microplate spectrophotometer/luminometer/fluorimeter;

• 2 Real-Time thermocyclers;

• protein and DNA electrophoresis apparatus;

• benchtop centrifuges.

Department facilities:

• transmission electron microscope;

• confocal laser scanning microscope;

• flow cytometer;

• digital droplet PCR system;

• HPLC and GC-MS;

• MALDI-TOF-MS;

• cold rooms;

• chemical hoods;

• ultracentrifuges.
