Research activities

The Laboratory of Molecular Virology and Antiviral Research is actively involved in two areas of research of strong relevance in virology: Antiviral Research and Environmental Virology.

The studies of Antiviral Research are applied to a wide panel of viruses including respiratory viruses - responsible for annual large outbreaks - sexually transmitted viruses, emerging arthropod-transmitted viruses and viruses responsible for gastrointestinal infections. The studies of Environmental Virology mainly focus on respiratory viruses.

The studies of Environmental Virology mainly focus on monitoring the presence of respiratory viruses, such as coronavirus, influenza virus and respiratory syncytial virus, in the environment.
